In My Reading Life
I have not been reading. I've been staring at my TBR shelf while lying very, very still on the floor. I'm hoping to develop the ability to absorb books telepathically.
In The Rest Of My Life
I haven't written a Sunday Post since April. Oops.
What's been going on? Last year, I started having problems with my brain and its connection to the rest of me. It's not a problem that can be fixed. The doctor told me to get a job that's less physically and mentally demanding.
I spent the winter trying to get a new job. I failed. The majority of jobs didn't even respond to my application.
I got desperate enough that I gave my resume to an AI and asked it to match me with a job. Do you know what job it chose for me? Crematory worker. Like, the person who burns the dead people. No offence to crematory workers, but that's not what I'm looking for. And, it pays less than my current job! Body burners deserve more.
Since I couldn't get a new job, I went back to fulltime park ranger work in April. OMG, friends, I can't do it anymore. I feel like a corpse that's beyond ready for the crematory.
Last week, I asked my supervisor if I could reduce my hours. She agreed. Then a new job responded to my application, and now I have an interview scheduled for this week.
So . . . that's what's happening. I'm a gently microwaved corpse, stumbling through life, not reading books.
(Also, I really want a new blog. This one is frustrating and uninspiring.)
Stalk Me Everywhere

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other. See you around the blogosphere!

OMG AJ I am so sorry for you! I hope that you will get accepted for the new job and that it will be a good match for you.
ReplyDeleteI’m so sorry AJ! I’m glad you were able to reduce your hours. I think the AI made its job suggestion based on your book list. Ha! I hope your interview goes well, and turns into a new position.
ReplyDeleteThis is exciting!!! I hope the job interview goes well. I am rooting for you, and now I am also interested in seeing what AI thinks I should do with my life.
ReplyDeleteWishing you all the luck for a successful interview! LMK if you master the telepathy thing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your week, take care x
Hope the interview goes well. I don't trust AI so I don't use it. I think your blog is fun; don't give up on it.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Best of luck for the interview. I hope you can get back to a better place mentally.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the new job application - it's the worst feeling in the world to find yourself working in a job you've come to thoroughly dislike.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that you job isn't working well for you. I do hope your interview goes well. I'm sorry to report that the osmosis theory of reading doesn't work. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the interview! I'm sorry you've been feeling so bad lately!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for all you've been going through. Good luck with the job interview. I hope it all works out.
ReplyDeleteA problem with your brain's connection to the rest of you sounds like it really, truly sucks. I'm sorry you're experiencing this. I hope that your interview goes well and you find a job that's less demanding--and that it's not in a crematorium.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about taking my blog in a new direction too. I don't know what that would be. I hope you find something on this front that is more satisfying to you as well.
Have you thought about a library clerk position? My son is hoping to go back to school for his Masters in Sustainable Communities and has been stalking our library's jobs page for about a year now because the hours he would want to work are the hours the clerks hate working (nights and weekends), according to a Facebook acquaintance of mine who works there. Is there an urban farm near you? That was another job he was interested in, but he needed a driver's license to qualify for a job that didn't require driving. Go figure. Museum docent? I wish you luck. ☕︎
ReplyDeleteI did the job applying a couple years ago and it was so depressing to not hear back from anyone (and it's just rude!). I hope your interview goes well.
ReplyDeleteHaving a job that sucks the life out of you so that you have no energy for anything else is not the way to live. I hope you get the new job! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh no AJ on several fronts! I love your sense of humour and really hope you can find a job that pays well and is something you love. Take care.
ReplyDelete"Last year, I started having problems with my brain and its connection to the rest of me." I can totally relate to that. it feels like a permenant state and I don't even work outside the home. Your sense of humor is amazing considering all you're going through. I hope that the interview goes well!
ReplyDeleteThat part about your TBR was also hilarious, by the way.
ReplyDeleteWe have missed hearing from you. I've got my fingers crossed (both hands!) for the interview. I hope the work involves comedy and pays great.
ReplyDeleteAh, I thought you were enjoying the park ranger job? I'm sorry it's not working out. Fingers crossed this new job will be the right one and work out! I get that though. My stress and unhappiness due to my last job was so horrible. I'm so excited to start my new job in the fall, and I'm going in knowing there's no such thing as a perfect job, but already I can tell the people there are totally different than where I am now, so that's a big plus. I love that you can handle all your stress with humor! That's what it takes sometimes to keep going. Here's hoping this is a good week for you!
