The Sunday Post #196

My sister, my niece, and our sad houseplant.

The Sunday Post is hosted by The Caffeinated Book Reviewer, and The Sunday Salon is hosted by Readerbuzz. They’re a chance to recap the past week, talk about next week, and share news. It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Book Date. I get to tell you what I’ve read recently.

On The Blog Last Week

On The Blog This Week

  • On Tuesday I share quotes from recent reads.
  • On Thursday there might be a wrap up.
  • On Saturday I review two middlegrade books.

In My Reading Life

Last week, I read Earth to Charlie by Justin Olson. It’s about two outcast teen boys who hang around in the woods and wait for aliens to abduct them. That’s a great premise, but I feel like the book has a long buildup to a rushed conclusion.

Then I gave Annabel by Kathleen Winter a second chance. It’s about an intersex child growing up in rural Labrador in the 1960s. I’m glad I didn’t give up on it forever because it gets more interesting as Wayne/Annabel grows up. I'm over halfway through it.

In The Rest Of My Life

Five things that made me happy last week:

  1. Game of Thrones! No spoilers, but the Jaime/Brienne thing was nice. Also, Sansa/Theon is the reunion I didn’t know I needed. Awwww. They’re all going to die. How sweet.
  2. Did anyone watch Gentleman Jack? It’s a new show on BBC/HBO. The characters wear fancy hats, so I’m intrigued.
  3. Easter candy goes on sale after Easter.
  4. I've been offered a new job! I have no idea how this will impact the blog. I’ve already had to cut back on blogging and reading just to get through the interview process. I now work in visitor services for a state park. The park where I'll be working is 10 minutes away from that park where mountain lions like to hang out. I’m sure I’ll be fine.
  5. I would not be mad if GoT ended this way.

I’m funny on occasion . . . .

Take care of yourselves and be kind to each other! See you around the blogosphere!

  1. Aww very nice photo and the baby is grinning! Too cute.
Congrats on the new job and be careful with the mountain lions! I feel like the only person left who doesn't watch Game of Thrones.

  3. Visitor services in a park? That sounds like a delightful job. You may get to see the outdoors, and, for me, that's always a mood-booster. Congratulations! Watch out for mountain lions!

I love the after-Easter Easter candy sales. I love the little Cadbury eggs (they come in a purple package). I stocked up on them this week. They seem to taste especially good while reading.

    1. I was surprised by how much I loved the Sansa/Theon reunion. They’ve never been my favorite characters, but I guess I like them both now.

  6. 1. I didn't have coffee in my mouth when I read your commentary on GoT, but if I had, I would have spit it out...and I at least hope Dany gets her just desserts.

    2. I haven't watched Gentleman Jack, but my wife and I are considering it while we have HBOGo for these couple of months.

    3. Easter candy: our local Rite Aid has been our hookup.

    4. Mountain lions?!? Craaazy. :) We live in northcentral Pennsylvania and always have the conspiracy nuts who claim to have seen one, even though they haven't been here in over a hundred years.

    5. We would not be mad with that either. R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

    1. There are for-sure mountain lions around here. I’ve never seen one, but people catch them on home security cameras fairly often.

  7. Your nephew is adorable! And many, many thanks for the Sesame Street version of how GoT is going to end... I, too, loved the Brienne/Jamie interlude, though like you I had a horrible feeling it is her swansong:(((. Have a great week, AJ!

  8. Lol about the houseplant. But great pic! Baby looks happy. :)

I like that cover on Earh to Charlie.

Congrats on the job! They say if you encounter mountain lions to wave your arms and act bigger than them? You probably already know that. :):)

Speaking of mountain lions, there's been this big debate for years whether Michigan has any. They're supposed to be all gone here, but people keep saying them. The state finally had to admit they're here when they caught one on tape. This has nothing to do with your post at all lol but I've been fascinated by it since there have been tons of sightings and the state was all like no no that's wasn't a mountain lion, silly dumb people. Anyway... happy Got!!!

    1. I probably won’t see a mountain lion, but I know they’re in the area. I guess mountain lions in Michigan are like wolves in Colorado. People say there are no wolves here, but then one got killed by a car about 2 hours away from where I live.

So much fun visiting everyone's blogs again :) and yes, definitely looking forward to the Easter candy going on sale xD good luck on the new job :)

  30. Hi AJ - what a wonderful photo ... and congratulations to the family. Good luck with the new job sounds a great place to work. Gentleman Jack - I came across her when I went to a 'Celebration of Diaries' Exhibition in London nearly two years ago - she's such an interesting character ... her diaries were in code. Enjoy the show - and I must keep a look out for it, as I've not seen the BBC show. Cheers Hilary
