Top Ten Tuesday: Best Book Titles

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week, we’re talking about book titles. A good title won’t automatically make me buy a book, but it will get my attention and make me want to know more. Here are 11 titles that caused me to stop scrolling aimlessly through Goodreads and start clicking the “buy me” links.

Best Book Titles

A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius

English as a Second F*cking Language: How to Swear Effectively, Explained in Detail with Numerous Examples Taken from Everyday Life

I was Told There'd be Cake

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

My Mother. Barack Obama. Donald Trump. And the Last Stand of The Angry White Man.

Send More Idiots

She Got Up Off the Couch: And Other Heroic Acts from Mooreland, Indiana

Something Wicked This Way Comes

The Earth, My Butt & Other Big Round Things

The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

What's your favorite book title?

  1. OMG, some of these are priceless. I’ve actually read The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things (many years ago). I’m still laughing at English as a Second F*cking Language. LOL

  4. Great list! I Was Told There'd Be Cake is quite possibly the best title I've seen this week - I'm off to look that one up immediately.

  6. These are great! My favorite of the group is She Got Up Off the Couch: And Other Heroic Acts from Mooreland, Indiana - change the title to my hometown and it might be about me :)

  7. I knew you would find great titles for this topic. Why does it delight me, that there is a book to help me swear effectively? And, you know, the follow up to Mackler's book was The Universe is Expanding and So Am I, which is also, a great title.

  13. Wow, some of these are definitely eye catching! Pride and Prejudice and Zombies for sure made me do a double take the first time I saw it. XD

  14. That first one sounds like something Trump would name one of his books, except his would be a bit more simplistic. Maybe The Great Work of a Stable Genius. :-)

  15. Haha, these are some great titles! I especially like 'English as a Second F*cking Language', and I relate so much to the 'I Was Told There'd Be Cake'. If there's supposed to be cake anywhere, I'll be there! :)

  16. I almost added "I Never Promised You A Goodie Bag," but when I read the description I was like no, that wasn't it. It was "I was Told There'd Be Cake"! Thank you for the reminder- just added to it my TBR, along with "She Got Up Off The Couch" (I wasn't interested in Zippy- this one sounds right up my alley though). Stopping by from the linkup :)

  18. Great titles... I need to reread Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. I read it 20 years ago and am sure I’d have more to comprehend now that I live near Savannah.

  23. She Got Up Off the Couch. I love it! 👍✨

I think one of the most interesting titles I have come across is Going Bovine by Libba Bray. It is also one of the weirdest books I have ever read. 😁
