In My Reading Life
Last week, I finished Stranded
by Bracken MacLeod. This is a very strange book that took me a long time to
read because I kept putting it down to think about the strangeness. Mostly, I
liked it, but I didn’t believe the ending. Humans don’t behave like that.
Right now, I’m reading The
Last Harvest by Kim Liggett. It’s about a bunch of high school students who
are possessed by demons. Seems like a pretty typical high school experience to
me.
In My Internet Stalking Life
- Leah @ Quite The Novel Idea talks about embarrassing fangirl moments.
- Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight suggest replacing the classics with books that are actually interesting.
- Chuckles @ Chuckles Book Cave talks about reviews and how we use them.
In The Rest Of My Life
Five things that made me happy last week:
- Scientists discovered a 90,000-year-old human hybrid person. Someone should write a novel about ancient human hybrid people.
- My dog is okay! I debated taking her to the vet for weeks because I wasn’t sure if she was sick or if I was paranoid. I finally took her to the vet. She has an ear infection, but mostly I’m paranoid. That’s bad news for my brain, but let’s focus on the positive. The dog isn’t sick!
- I did a massive purge of my to-be-read list. I deleted several hundred books. I still have about 300 books on the list, but being realistic is overrated.
- I decided that I’m only going to review spooky books in October. Come back on Saturdays in October if you like spooky stuff.
- Trumpsters explain “Space Force.” I laughed really hard. Also, I’m terrified for the future of humanity.

the blogosphere!
Glad your pup is ok, and I admire your ability to get your TBR down so love. I am happy when it's under 1000 XD
ReplyDeleteMine was getting close to 600. There’s no way I could ever read that much, so something needed to be deleted.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I still need to read Stranded. I loved The Last Harvest.
ReplyDeleteI really liked The Last Harvest, too. It was extremely dark. That’s how I like my horror.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Looking forward to the trash tv post lol I've been doing quite a bit of that myself.
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
There are certain times of the year where I watch way too much TV. Fall is one of those times. I’m preparing to watch tons of TV.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I don't think having an overly large and completely undoable to-read list is a bad thing either. :)
ReplyDeleteIt’s good to have choices, right? :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I definitely need to purge my TBR list! I have titles on there from years ago that I no longer want to read...
ReplyDeleteThat’s why I purged it. I had so many books on there that I have lost interest in reading.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I also had mixed feelings about Stranded, but I mostly enjoyed it. Hurray for human hybrid people! I'm off to read about it! I'm so glad your dog is okay!
ReplyDeleteStranded was pretty good until the end. Then it kind of went to pieces for me.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Glad Kiera is ok and survived our invasion. :) As for Space Force. Words fail me. LOL! I feel like Trumpers live in a different reality or something sometimes. I try to keep an open mind but just can't wrap my head around their POV.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don’t understand Space Force. There are so many better things to spend money on.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I am glad you liked Salt to the Sea. I have that (among a million others) on my TBR pile to read. One of these days. :-) I am glad your dog is okay! I would rather be paranoid than miss something. And if it turns out to be nothing or something minor--than all the better. I want to laugh whenever I see these interviews with Trump's supporters, but I fall in the "more terrified" category. I need to get a sense of humor about it. It would save my sanity. I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI hope you read Salt to the Sea soon! It’s one of my favorites of the year so far. I’d also rather be paranoid than right. I don’t like spending money on unnecessary vet visits, but the paranoia was getting too intense.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Well I'm glad your dog is ok. Ours has an ear infection in addition to being old. Yes some of the things going on in the world are terrifying and unkind.
ReplyDeleteBooks make everything better. I can't believe you deleted books. I guess if you won't read them. I have 1000s on my Kindle but at the rate I read I'm going to need them once I retire. I only have about 10 years of books at my current rate. lol Anne - Books of My Heart
I didn’t delete any actual books. I just deleted titles from my wish list. I have deleted books in the past, but only the free ones that I was never going to read. I don’t think I could delete something that I spent money on.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I want to review some creepy books in October, too! I have a few in mind, now I just have to make time to read them!
ReplyDeleteI hope you find some excellent creepy books. I have tons of horror on my shelf, so this is a good excuse to read it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Stranded is on mu reading list. I've been reading some strange books recently. It will fit right in. Had to laugh at your comment about possessed teens. Might check out that one too.
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday Post
I hope you enjoy Stranded!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Ohhhh okay. So that human hybrid thing is kind of freaking me out, but I have to admit it would make a GREAT story hahaha.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to hear your dog is okay! <3 And yay for the purge of your TBR - this is always the hardest, but I think that 300 books is pretty reasonable. You're doing GREAT hahaha :)
I hope you'll have a wonderful week <3
The human hybrid thing is cool. Why aren’t there more novels about prehistoric humans? I want to read them!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Glad your dog is ok! Good for you on your TBR purge. I totally need to do my own. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks! A good book purge is always helpful. I feel less overwhelmed now.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Yay! I love it when dogs aren't sick!
ReplyDeleteI worry about the future of humanity as well.
I was very happy about the dog not being sick. Sick dogs are a lot of work (and they do awful things to the floor of my house).
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm delighted to hear your dog is okay, other than an ear infection. And thank you for sharing that amazing article regarding ancient hybrid humans! You're right - someone SHOULD write that story... I hope you have a great week, AJ:)
ReplyDeleteI’m hoping that sharing the article all over inspires someone to write stories about prehistoric humans. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Glad to hear that your dog is good now! Now about the spooky books in October ...good for you! I could never sleep reading spooky books LOL
ReplyDeleteHaha, I love spooky books. I’ve read some really scary ones recently. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm glad your dog is OK! I'm exactly the same with my dog though, especially now she's old. I'm always paranoid that she's getting sick.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I'm off to read about human hybrid people, seen as I hadn't heard about that... :)
It’s good to know that I’m not alone. My dog is 10, and I’m always worried that something is going to happen to her.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Glad the doggie is ok. And scary books in October sounds good to me! Enjoy The Last Harvest, it sounds like a good one too.
ReplyDeleteI’m very excited for October. I’m already getting into the spooky spirit.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Glad your dog is okay. It's nice to be able to whittle down your TBR too. I only have 149 on my list, so I guess it's still slightly manageable. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteWow, I’m impressed with your list. I need to be pickier about what I put on mine. It gets out of control very quickly.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Really glad that your dog is ok! I really need to cull the reading material on my Kindle. It's ridiculous. I just have such a hard time doing it :/
ReplyDeleteI know! I have to stay away from free books. I download them, never read them, and then have to delete them. It’s difficult.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Happy news about your pup! When you say you purged several hundred books from your TBR LIST, you mean a wish list kind of thing, right? Or do you mean you purged actual physical books?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.
It’s a wish list. I don’t think I could delete a book that I paid money for. It would be too hard.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
"trash I've been watching on TV" lol. I watch trash too ha ha.
ReplyDeleteGlad your dog is okay! That must be a huge relief. And ooh spooky books in October- yay.
Okay Trumpsters explaining anything is usually entertaining- I'm afraid to click on that video but click I will. :)
Trash TV is the best TV. I’m so excited for horror shows and spooky books this fall.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm so glad to hear your dog is okay. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy your dog is okay but paranoia? join the club I have over a thousand books on my tbr and the more I get rid of the more I add to it Anyway I am so looking forward to all the spooky things and pumpkin spice everything as well.
ReplyDeleteJackie's Forget Me Nots Weekend What nots
I love pumpkin stuff! I’m so excited for fall.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
" It’s about a bunch of high school students who are possessed by demons. Seems like a pretty typical high school experience to me." LOOOOOL I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING. You're fantastic. 😂😂 I'm also very glad your dog is okay and not sick! And I'm always super paranoid about mine too...like he barely ever likes drinking water, and then the other day he drank twice. So I'm immediately like: HE'S SICK AND HIS KIDNEYS HAVE FAILED. Being a parent (of dOGS anyway) is hard ok.
ReplyDeleteIt’s good to know I’m not alone! Whenever my dog does something unusual, I get freaked out and think that something is wrong with her.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Stranded might not have been your thing but it looks relevant to my research project. Have a good week. My weekly updates
ReplyDeleteIf you read it, I hope you like it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Great news about your dog being ok! It's natural to worry about precious pets but I'm pleased things are ok. Thanks very much for the mention! I find a lot of things about Trump funny then I remember that he has a nuclear button and it doesn't seem that amusing anymore!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I laugh at Trump a lot, but then I remember that we trust him with bombs and money for some reason.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Good news about the pup! Enjoy your spooky reads.
ReplyDeleteI'm a girl that is terrified of terrifying books, so I'll step away from spooky books, thank you very much. Enjoy yourself!
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks! Lots of people seem to be scared of spooky books. I love them.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Ooo… I look forward to the spooky reviews in October.
ReplyDeleteMe, too! I have tons of horror on my shelves and am excited to read it.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Stranded sounds... intriguing. I do like weird books though.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear your pup is okay!
My list!
It was very weird. I didn’t see those twists coming.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
That Space Force thing makes me want to leave the planet! Glad to hear the dog isn't sick, and I hope you're well!
ReplyDeleteHaha, maybe Space Force can help you get off the planet? I know what you mean, though. I *facepalm* on a daily basis.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I believe I am just as paranoid as you. I am always freaking about but I am glad your pup isn't sick. I have to take all of mine to the vet soon.
ReplyDeleteThe Purge, I did that recently and it feel so much better but I am pretty sure it wont last long.
Have a great week, AJ! Happy Reading! :)
I’m already adding books to my list. I’m sure it will be out of control again soon.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Goodness. I hate when one of our babies is sick. I'd much rather be paranoid than right! Glad all is well with your baby and that ear is feeling much better soon!
ReplyDeleteI would also rather be paranoid than right. I’m glad it was just an ear infection and not something really bad.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I should purge by physical TBR mountain but I don't know what to do with the books I no longer want to read. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI donate or trade a lot of my physical books. I don’t have space to keep them all.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Spooky reads sound great! I look forward to seeing what you read in October. =)
ReplyDeleteAnd good news about your dog.
Happy reading!
I’m very much enjoying the spooky books right now.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Congrats on your major purge AJ! I hve 1,000+ books on my TBR and no matter how many I cut or read it seems to hover there... I need your secrets! ❤️
ReplyDeleteWell, I need discussion post ideas, so maybe I’ll write about how I deleted a zillion books. :)
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I am so glad that your dog is okay. My husband thinks that we need to take one of ours to the vet since she is constantly scratching but I keep putting it off. You never know with dogs! I once deleted all of the to be read books on Goodreads. It felt good but I am right back in the same mess again. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteIt can be so hard to tell if dogs are sick. That’s why I worry whenever mine does something unusual. They’re pretty good at hiding their problems.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Its really good that your dog is okay!! Can't wait for your Wrap-Up, for some reason I just enjoy seeing what other people read recently.
ReplyDeleteI love wrap-ups, too! They’re my favorite posts to read on blogs.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I admire the fact that you were able to delete so many books from your TBR pile. I had done several Down the TBR hole clean ups a few months back, but I just struggle so much to delete books from the list. Here is my weekly update!
ReplyDeleteI’ve thought about joining Down the TBR Hole. I still have way too many books on my list. I could probably use help narrowing it down.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Yay for your dog not being sick and double yay for managing to whittle down your TBR list. I really need to do that on Goodreads because mine is so out of control. LOL at the Space Force video, but yes, also a little scared .
ReplyDeleteMy list will quickly get out of control again soon. I feel like I add new books every day.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I am glad your dog is okay. And don't worry about being paranoid. Sometimes, we do get paranoid for the ones we love :)
ReplyDeleteAnd wow, impressive that you deleted so many books from your TBR. i need to do that too :)
I’m very happy that the dog is okay. I don’t need any more problems right now!
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
High school students possessed by demons? Is this supposed to be odd? Ho-hum. A human hybrid person? Okay, that's just freaky. Way freakier than demon-possessed teens. I did a big TBR purge last year. Totally freeing. And I loved seeing that number go down. It's the little things.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I’m pretty sure that 90% of the people in my high school were possessed by demons.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
It's good to know your doggy is okay! And good job on purging your TBR. I mean, 300 books is probably realistic in comparison to mine xD But purging takes effort so you did good. Also, I know which blog I will be stopping by for getting some creepy reads. I love the sound of your current read. Definitely a realistic high school experience from the sound of it :D
ReplyDeleteMy recent post: https://oliviascatastrophe.com/2018/09/august-wrap-up-2018/
The TBR purge took days, but I’m glad it’s done. And, yep, I’m pretty sure that most teens get possessed by demons at least once during their high school years.
DeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm so glad that your pup is okay!!! And you always share links to the weirdest/most interesting things---I'm off to go check them out now! :-)
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
I am super excited for spooky October!! Maybe I should do the same - but I am so bad at reviewing books, but I will definitely talk about a lot of spooky reads!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your dog is okay!
I should purge my lists too but it's just so hard! I WANT TO READ EVERYTHING!
You're not the only one terrified for the future of humanity. Yikes. That video!
ReplyDeleteI like the 5 things that make you happy... That hybrid human article was something to get the cogs turning in the brain!
ReplyDelete
